Bob and Marlene Malacarne
Marlene is a 4th generation Virgin Islander who has seen St. John grow from a sleepy vacation retreat for a handful of people to a bustling tourist economy. Marlene started her short term rental business on St John in 1981 with two small homes, and since then it has grown to nine. Marlene left her job as a school nurse on St Thomas to devote more time to her new rental business and she has never regretted making that move.
Marlene has made many friends of returning guests and believes in providing a superior level of service to all guests. All guests are treated as she would like to be treated.
Bob has been a licensed EMT since 1995 and served as Chief of St. John Rescue for three years. He is now its Training Officer. He wrote a column in the local newspaper, the St. John Sun Times, regarding emergency services as well. Bob continues to be actively involved in St. John, and recently was awarded the St John Rotary Club’s “Community Service Award” (Oct. 2008)
Prior to moving to St. John, Bob was a volunteer firefighter in Rhode Island from 1963 – 1998 while teaching school in the same area (1968 – 1998). Bob was chosen “Teacher of the Year” at Narragansett Pier School in 1997, and was chosen for “Who’s Who in American Teachers” in 1994. His volunteer work in the States included assisting Rhode Island children with cancer through the “Tomorrow Fund.”
Bob and Marlene have been “loving” Star Villas together since 2000.
